Owls Fall in 4-3 Road Thriller at Lafayette

9.4.26 | Field Hockey

EASTON, Pa. – Despite rallying from a two-goal deficit to even the score, the Temple University field hockey team fell to Lafayette, 4-3, on Friday evening at Rappolt Field.

The Owls (1-2) look to bounce back on Sunday at Wagner, while the Leopards (2-1) seek their third win on Monday night when Cornell visits Easton.

Temple erased a 2-0 deficit behind goals from Rozlyn Maciejewski and freshman Mina Uezbe, who recorded the first goal of her collegiate career. Lafayette regained the lead with two goals in the final three minutes before Lucia Magro scored with 20 seconds remaining to cut the final margin to one.

How It Happened

After a scoreless first quarter, Lafayette opened the scoring 20 seconds into the second period. Stella Malinowski gained possession before firing a long shot into the cage.

Lafayette's Lena Thedrian scored the first of her three goals on a penalty corner, with Lea Good and Katie Gibb setting up Thedrian with 10:28 remaining in the second quarter.

Maciejewski put the Owls on the scoreboard with 4:16 remaining before halftime, recording her first goal of the 2026 season and the third of her career.

Late in the third quarter, Temple evened the score at 2-2. Uezbe gained possession before ripping a shot into the far side of the cage for her first collegiate goal. She now has three points through three games after tallying an assist against James Madison.

Thedrian scored twice in 50 seconds to restore Lafayette's two-goal advantage. Her second goal of the game came off a penalty corner with 2:35 remaining, with Gibb and Olivia Krey setting up the play. Less than a minute later, Thedrian one-timed a pass from Krey into the cage. Following a video review, the goal was confirmed, giving the Leopards a 4-2 lead with 1:45 remaining.

With 20 seconds remaining, Lonneke Kerkhof inserted a penalty corner to Mathea Lassalle before Magro ripped a shot into the cage for her second goal of the season.
