Magro's Two Goals Lift Temple Past Wagner, 2-1

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. – Behind a pair of second-quarter goals from sophomore Lucia Magro and five saves from junior goalkeeper Alex Lepore, the Temple University field hockey team defeated Wagner, 2-1, on Sunday afternoon at the Wagner College Field Hockey Complex.
The Owls improve to 2-2 on the season, while the Seahawks fall to 0-4. Temple returns to Howarth on Friday to host Monmouth in its home opener.

How It Happened
After a scoreless opening quarter, Temple wasted little time breaking through in the second. Just 55 seconds into the frame, Magro finished off a penalty corner to give the Owls a 1-0 advantage. Lonneke Kerkhof and Mathea Lassalle picked up assists on the goal.

Wagner responded just 1:19 later. Following a Seahawks penalty corner, Victoria Gonzalez-Lopez found the back of the cage off an assist from Floortje Leunisse to even the contest at 1-1.
Temple continued to apply pressure, forcing Wagner goalkeeper Miley Brezgel to make back-to-back saves on Lotje Aalderink and Riley Gallagher midway through the quarter.
With 6:07 remaining before halftime, the Owls earned a penalty stroke and Magro converted the opportunity for her second goal of the afternoon, putting Temple back in front, 2-1.

Temple came out firing to start the second half. Rozlyn Maciejewski and Lassalle each put shots on cage in the opening 30 seconds of the third quarter before Lassalle forced another save following a penalty corner.
Wagner generated pressure later in the period, but Lepore made a pair of saves to preserve the one-goal advantage heading into the fourth.

The Seahawks earned three penalty corners in the final quarter, but Temple's defense held firm. Lepore stopped Leunisse less than two minutes into the frame for her fifth save of the contest.
Wagner pulled its goalkeeper with 2:29 remaining in search of the equalizer, but the Owls did not allow a shot the rest of the way to secure the road victory.
