Temple Heads to Quinnipiac for BIG EAST Clash Friday

PHILADELPHIA — Following a thrilling 3-2 win over Richmond on Sunday, the Temple University field hockey team jumps back into BIG EAST action Friday, traveling to Quinnipiac. Game time between the Owls (8-2, 1-1 BE) and the Bobcats (5-4, 0-2 BE) is set for 1 p.m. in Hamden, Conn.

Scouting Temple

The Owls are coming off a 1-1 week, rebounding from a 2-0 loss to Villanova with a 3-2 comeback victory over Richmond at Howarth Field. Against the Spiders, Temple trailed 2-1 at halftime following a penalty stroke by Richmond's Amy Stripling. Kathryn Gauvin tallied the equalizer in the 45th minute, while Agustina Tucceri fired in the game-winning goal with 6:27 remaining.

Temple continues to showcase a balanced offense through 10 games, with nine players contributing to the team's 26 goals. Two-time BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week Peyton Rieger and Mathéa Lassalle lead the way with five goals each, with Rieger topping the squad with 14 points. Freshmen Lucia Magro (4G, 1A), Mara Lenting (3G, 3A) and Gauvin (3G, 1A) have all scored at least three times. Temple's 26 goals lead the BIG EAST.

Defensively, the Owls are allowing fewer than two goals per contest (1.90). Goalkeeper Alex Lepore suffered her first loss of the season against Villanova but still ranks in the top 10 nationally in win-loss percentage with an 8-1 record. The Devon, Pa., native is fourth in the conference in goals-against average (1.50).

Scouting Quinnipiac

The Bobcats enter Friday at 5-4, falling in their only game last week, a 2-0 setback at Old Dominion. They are 0-2 in BIG EAST play, also dropping a 2-0 decision to nationally ranked Liberty on Sept. 19.

Quinnipiac is led by standout forward Francisca Eschoyez, who has eight goals and seven assists for 23 points. The Italy native leads the BIG EAST in goals and points while ranking tied for second in assists. She is supported by Rozemarijn Van Keulen (4G, 3A) and Mo Quaile (4G, 1A), who have posted 11 and nine points, respectively.

Goalkeeper Cristina Torres has started all nine contests, posting a 1.57 goals-against average and a .735 save percentage. The Spain native has allowed two goals or fewer in eight of nine games.


All-Time Series vs. Quinnipiac

Temple leads the all-time series, 5-3, with the teams meeting annually since Quinnipiac joined the BIG EAST in 2016.

The Owls earned a 3-2 win in the first meeting at Howarth Field, before the Bobcats claimed three straight victories from 2017–19.

Since 2021, Temple has won four consecutive matchups, outscoring QU 14-8. Two of those contests required overtime, including the 2021 edition, which Temple won in a shootout.
