Owls Take Down JMU in Season Opener

COLLEGE PARK, Md. – Led by first-half goals from sophomore Brooke Weaver and senior Riley Gallagher, the Temple University field hockey team opened the 2026 season with a 2-1 win over James Madison on Friday afternoon at the Maryland Field Hockey and Lacrosse Complex.
The Owls (1-0) will face Conference Cup host Maryland on Sunday at 2 p.m. The Dukes (0-1) close the tournament against Drexel on Sunday at 11 a.m.
How It Happened
Temple registered its first goal of the season with 1:15 remaining in the first quarter. Lucia Magro sent a ball toward the cage, and Weaver got her stick on it to redirect it into the net for her first collegiate goal.

With just over 10 minutes remaining in the first half, Mina Uezbe received a pass from Rozlyn Maciejewski and fired a high shot that Gallagher redirected into the net. The assist was the first of Uezbe's collegiate career. Gallagher's goal was the third of her career after she scored twice as a junior last season.

JMU scored its lone goal on a penalty stroke in the third quarter. Puck Jansen beat Temple goalkeeper Alex Lepore to cut the Owls' lead to 2-1.
Temple held off the Dukes the rest of the way, with Lepore making three second-half saves to preserve the victory. The junior finished with four saves, while JMU goalkeeper Lilly Sweeney (0-1) recorded three.
