PHILADELPHIA – The Temple University field hockey team opens the 2026 campaign at The Conference Cup, taking on James Madison on Friday at 3 p.m. before wrapping up the weekend against tournament host No. 13 Maryland on Sunday at 2 p.m.
Both contests will be streamed on B1G+.

Temple is coming off a 12-6 (3-4 BIG EAST) season in 2025. The Owls narrowly missed a BIG EAST Tournament berth, with Villanova earning the fourth and final spot through a tiebreaker.
In nonconference action, the Owls posted a 9-2 record, highlighted by a 2-1 Senior Day win over No. 14 Yale. Three of Temple's four conference losses came by a single goal, including a 3-2 shootout loss to No. 7 Liberty and a 3-2 double-overtime loss to Old Dominion.
2026 Schedule
The challenging 2026 slate features five teams that appeared in the NCAA Tournament and six ranked in the Penn Monto/NFHCA Division I National Coaches Poll. Temple's preseason nationally ranked opponents include No. 3 Princeton, No. 8 Liberty, No. 11 UConn, No. 13 Maryland, No. 16 Yale and No. 18 Monmouth.
Returners
Temple returns six starters and 13 reserves from its 2025 roster.
Sophomore Lucia Magro returns following a BIG EAST Freshman of the Year campaign in which she posted nine goals and two assists for 20 points, the most by a Temple freshman since 1987. She also earned All-BIG EAST First Team, NFHCA All-Mid-Atlantic Second Team and ECAC Rookie of the Year honors.
Senior Mathéa Lassalle ranked third on the team with six goals while adding two assists for 14 points. Kathryn Gauvin totaled five goals and two assists for 12 points.
Defensively, junior Marsha Ariesen and sophomore Lonneke Kerkhof return for the Owls.
In goal, Alex Lepore returns after posting an 11-5 record, a 1.42 goals-against average and a .708 save percentage.
Other returners include Mallory Buzydlowski, Marissa Cagliola, Winslow DiPeso, Riley Gallagher, Emmie Goldberg, Madison Logan, Rozlyn Maciejewski, Amanda Martin, Isabella Pisano, Reagan Stauts, Izzy Vickery, Whitney Walker and Lise Korver.
Newcomers
Temple welcomes nine newcomers to its 2026 roster, including six freshmen, two transfers and graduate student Luisa Walter. The two transfers are junior defender Lotje Aalderink from VCU and sophomore midfielder Brooke Weaver from Penn State.
Aalderink started all 36 games during her two seasons at VCU and was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Rookie Team in 2024.
Weaver appeared in all 17 games for the Nittany Lions as a true freshman following an impressive high school career at Manheim Township, where she recorded 64 goals and 46 assists.
Lucia Campenni finished her four-year career at Wyoming Area with 77 goals and 38 assists. As a senior, she recorded 38 goals and 10 assists, earned first-team all-state honors and was selected to the Longstreth Senior All-American Game.
Yaya Copal played for Were Di in Tilburg, the Netherlands, beginning at age 6 and competed for the club's top youth team. She also gained experience with Were Di Dames 2 in the Reserve Hoofdklasse, the country's highest league for second teams.
Maura Simpson surpassed 200 points and 100 goals during her four-year career at Northern High School. A three-time first-team all-state selection, she helped Northern reach the 2024 PIAA Class 2A state championship game and won four National Club Championships with WC Eagles.
Audrey Nelson led Delaware in goals and was named the state's Division II Player of the Year as a senior at Newark Charter School. She earned first-team all-state honors in each of her final three seasons and helped the Patriots win three conference championships.
Jip Josephus Jitta competed at the highest youth level in the Netherlands for five years. She was selected to the Dutch U16 training squad and helped Hurley U16-1 finish second at the 2023-24 indoor championships.
Mina Uezbe appeared in 10 games for Germany's U16 National Team and was later invited to a German U18 training camp. At the club level, she helped Bremer Hockey Club earn promotion to the 1. Bundesliga and scored seven goals in 10 games during the 2025-26 indoor season.
Walter brings extensive experience at the highest senior level in Germany. A former member of the German U16 and U18 national teams, Walter has competed in the German Bundesliga since 2019 and also played one season in Spain's top division.
International Flavor
A total of 10 Owls bring international backgrounds to North Broad in 2026, with six coming from field hockey powerhouse the Netherlands. The Owls traveled to the Netherlands from May 11-18 for an international tour that included three competitions, team-building opportunities and cultural experiences throughout the country.
Temple's international contingent also features a pair of Germans in Luisa Walter and Mina Uzbe. Argentina, represented by Lucia Magro, and France, represented by Mathéa Lassalle, round out the group.
Among Temple's 18 domestic student-athletes, 10 hail from Pennsylvania. New Jersey (three), Maryland (two), Delaware (one), Massachusetts (one) and Virginia (one) are also represented.
