1.28.26 | Women's Gymnastics
PHILADELPHIA – Freshman Brooklyn Thomas has been named East Atlantic Gymnastics League Rookie Gymnast of the Week after her performance against George Washington, Penn, and Texas Woman's University.
Thomas competed three times for the Owls but shined on the floor. Thomas was the anchor in the lineup for Temple and she posted a 9.800. That score tied a career-high in Thomas' young career. She finished tied for 11th place overall on floor in a very competitive field. In two of the last three times Thomas has competed on the floor for Temple she has posted a 9.800 twice, which has boosted her average on the apparatus to a 9.756.
Thomas and the Owls will be back in action this week and travel to Athens, Ga. for the Georgia Quad Meet on Friday, Jan. 30. The University of Georgia Bulldogs will host Temple, Fisk, and Central Michigan for a 7:00 pm meet. The meet will be streamed on SEC Network Plus.
Temple head coach Hilary Steele will be returning to her alma mater at the Georgia Quad Meet. Steele helped the GymDogs win two NCAA Championships the first being in 2008 and the second in 2009. As a freshman, Steele earned second team All-America honors on the beam with a 9.850 score. Her senior year Steele won the SEC Vault Individual Championship.
Fans tuning into SEC Network Plus for the meet will hear a familiar voice. The voice of the Temple Owls, Kevin Copp, will be on the call for the Georgia Quad Meet. Copp is also a graduate of the University of Georgia.
