Women’s Tennis Travels to Morgantown for Two-Match Weekend

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The Temple University women's tennis team is set for its second weekend of competition this Saturday, facing both the West Virginia Mountaineers and the Cleveland State Vikings from Morgantown on Saturday, Jan. 31, and Sunday, Feb. 1.

SCOUTING TEMPLE

Temple is coming off two losses against Penn State and VCU on Jan. 17 and 18.
Against Northwestern, Irmak Ozturk and Nina Andreoni each went to three sets but eventually fell to their opponents in singles. The same pair also went to three sets against the Rams of VCU, but still came up short.

Scouting West Virginia

The Mountaineers enter the weekend 2-0, coming out on top against Morgan State and Youngstown State, winning each match 7-0.
West Virginia was set to face Georgetown and Fairmont State last weekend, but the competition was cancelled due to the weather.
Head Coach Miha Lisac is in his 13th season as head coach of the West Virginia Mountaineers. A former CAA Coach of the Year, the Mountaineers compiled an 8-17 record in 2025, falling in the first round of the Big 12 tournament.

Scouting Cleveland State

Cleveland State has collected a 0-2 record so far in 2026, falling to Eastern Michigan 1-6 before dropping a match against Cincinnati in a tight 3-4 finish.
After a strong season debut, the duo of Ella Franz and Melliz Petkova Mustafa was named the Horizon League Doubles Team of the Week. The pair earned a 6-4 win against Eastern Michigan with a combined record of 6-3 when including the fall.
Head Coach Frank Polito is entering his eighth year as the head coach of the Vikings. Polito led the team to a perfect 6-0 mark in league play last season, advancing to the second round of the conference tournament before falling to Youngstown State 4-1.
