BIRMINGHAM - Temple women's volleyball(11-9) fell to UAB (8-12) Sunday afternoon. Temple showed resilience in a hard-fought matchup against UAB, despite falling in three sets (16-25, 22-25, 21-25). The Owls demonstrated improvement throughout the match, highlighted by competitive second and third sets. Christiana Greene led Temple with 12 kills, while Olivia Hummel added nine kills and Lexi Yoza contributed 26 assists to pace the Owls offense.
Set:1 (Temple 16 - UAB 25)
Temple opened the match with energy, jumping out to an early 2-0 lead behind kills from Olivia Hummel and Kennedy Crayton.
After UAB responded with a scoring run, the Owls battled back with four consecutive points, highlighted by two kills from Jaya Moore and a service ace from Crayton, cutting the deficit to 9-8.
Moore and Hummel each finished the opening set with three kills, providing offensive momentum for Temple.
Despite the Blazers pulling away late, the Owls showed flashes of strong attacking play and continued to compete throughout the set.
Set:2 (Temple 22 - UAB 25)
The Owls displayed their resilience in the second set, overcoming an early deficit to push UAB in a tightly contested battle.
Trailing 18-11, Temple put together an impressive 6-0 run behind strong offensive contributions from Greene and Hummel, cutting the Blazers lead to just one point at 18-17.
Greene led the Owls with five kills in the set, while Hummel added three kills on four attempts and Temple recorded two team blocks. Although UAB held on for the 25-22 victory.
Set:3 (Temple 21 - UAB 25)
Temple carried its competitive spirit into the third set, overcoming an early 5-1 deficit with a six-point scoring run to take a 7-5 lead.
Maddie Metcalf sparked the comeback with three service aces, while Hummel and Khenedi Guest combined for a block that helped shift momentum in the Owls' favor.
Greene continued her strong performance with five kills in the set, helping Temple close a six-point deficit to just two at 20-18 late in the set. Despite their efforts, UAB would go on to secure the final set 25-21.
