Temple Tops American to Stay Unbeaten

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Temple women's lacrosse (3–0) earned a 13–9 victory over American University (0–2) Saturday afternoon at The Jacobs Complex. Lexi Culp, Amelia Wright, and Sabrina Martin each recorded hat tricks, while Wright led all scorers with a season-high four goals.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Amelia Wright opened the scoring for the Owls just three minutes into the first quarter. American's Anastasia Byrnes answered shortly after to tie the game, 1–1. Sabrina Martin responded with two consecutive goals, including one on a free-position attempt, to give Temple a 3–1 lead. Kellie Linehan scored late in the quarter to trim the advantage to 3–2.
American struck first in the second quarter to even the score at 3–3. Wright netted her second goal of the game to regain the lead, but Deirdre Brown answered to tie it at 4–4. The teams continued to trade goals throughout the period, with American taking a 6–5 lead into halftime.
Temple responded in the third quarter as Lexi Culp and Martin each found the back of the net to put the Owls back in front, 7–6. Wright completed her hat trick on a free-position goal, extending the lead to 9–6. Lily Caravela added her first goal of the season as Temple closed the quarter on a 5–1 run to take a 10–7 advantage.
Culp opened the fourth quarter with her third consecutive hat trick to give Temple an 11–7 lead. The Owls added two more goals, one from Wright and another from Caravella, to stretch the margin to six, 13–7. American started a late push with two goals, but Temple held on for the 13–9 victory.
