Temple Defeats UMass Lowell, 9–6

PHILADELPHIA – Temple women's lacrosse (5–0) earned a 9–6 victory over UMass Lowell (2–2) Saturday afternoon at Howarth Field. Amelia Wright led the Owls with four goals, all coming in the second half. With the win, Temple improved to 5–0 for the first time since 2012.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Sabrina Martin opened the scoring midway through the first quarter to give Temple a 1–0 lead. After a defensive stretch from both teams, UMass Lowell's Macy Shultz converted on a free-position attempt with just over a minute remaining in the quarter to tie the game.
Temple responded early in the second quarter with back-to-back goals just one minute into the period from Martin and Sarah Gowman. Kali Saito added a free-position goal to extend the Owls' advantage to 4–1.
Wright opened the second half with a goal off an assist from Martin. Gowman followed with her second goal of the game to push Temple's lead to five, 6–1. Wright added her second goal of the contest before UMass Lowell's Chiara Pompei cut the deficit to 7–2. Wright completed her hat trick with just over a minute remaining in the third quarter. Bronwyn Hilbert scored late in the frame to trim the deficit to 8–4 heading into the fourth.
UMass Lowell's Grace Lydon scored twice to open the final quarter, narrowing Temple's lead to 8–6. Wright answered with her fourth goal of the day to secure the 9–6 victory.
