Emelie Beckman Breaks School Record; Wins Gold on Day One of Indoor Conference Championships

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Temple University's women's indoor track and field team finished day one of the American Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships. The two-day meet is being held at the Birmingham CrossPlex in Birmingham, Ala. The highlight from opening day was Emelie Beckman setting a new Temple indoor record in the pole vault after clearing a height of 4.17m (13'-8.25"). The height was good enough for Beckman to win the gold medal in the event. The Owls ended day one with 16 points putting them in sixth place in the conference standings.

Results: Day One

Sophomore Lila Ziegler ran a new personal record in the 60m sprint with a time of 7.75, placing 23rd out of 34 athletes. Janae Pettaway also competed in this event and came across the line with a time of 7.88.
In the 60m hurdles, Zayniah Ali finished with a time of 8.74 which is a new personal record for the sophomore. Aly Doyle came in right behind her with a time of 8.78.
Lila Ziegler was the only Temple athlete to compete in the 200m race and she finished with a time of 26.03.
Freshman Kei-Mahri Hanna led the Owls in the 400m with a time of 55.37, putting her ninth out of 32 athletes. Also competing in this event were Mariah Jameson (56.03), Grace Hickman (57.69), and Chloe Smith (58.80).
Representing the Cherry & White in the mile was Rian Johnson, who finished with a time of 5:05.45.
Kamryn Ohm also competed in the pole vault and placed fifth out of 21 competitors after achieving a new personal record, clearing the bar at 3.87m (12'-8.25").
Temple finished seventh out of 12 schools in the Distance Medley Relay after Laila Cottom, Hanna, Johnson, and Rose Tuomisto finished with a time of 11:47.51.

The Owls will wrap up day two tomorrow with the high jump, triple jump, 3,000m, and the 4x400m relay. The meet will air live on ESPN+.
