PHILADELPHIA – Temple women's lacrosse (8–1) battled Rutgers (5–2) in a back-and-forth contest but fell short, 17–16, Saturday morning at Howarth Field. Amelia Wright and Brooke Mazzei paced the Owls offensively with four goals apiece.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Amelia Wright opened the scoring for Temple just two minutes into the game. Rutgers responded quickly as Caroline Ling found the back of the net to even the score. The teams traded goals early in the first quarter, with Sarah Gowman scoring for the Owls and Payton Tini answering for the Scarlet Knights. Ling added her second goal of the game, while Hilary Elsner extended Rutgers' lead, 4-2. Lexi Culp cut the deficit back to one for Temple, but Ava Chiarella scored late in the quarter to give Rutgers a 5–3 lead at the end of the first.

Temple responded in the second quarter as Wright and Brooke Mazzei each scored to tie the game at 5–5. Rutgers answered with two goals to regain a 7–5 advantage, but Culp struck again to keep the Owls within one. Wright completed her hat trick shortly after, and Jenna Facciolli scored the equalizer to knot the game at 8–8 heading into halftime.

Rutgers regained momentum in the third quarter, as Ling scored back-to-back goals to put the Scarlet Knights ahead 11–9. Wright added her fourth goal of the game, but Rutgers responded with a three-goal run to extend the lead to 14–10. Mazzei halted the run with a goal to bring Temple within three, but the Scarlet Knights closed the quarter with two more goals to take a 16–11 lead into the final frame.

Temple mounted a late comeback effort in the fourth quarter. Sabrina Martin opened the scoring before Mazzei netted her third goal to complete a hat trick and cut the deficit to three. Gowman later added her third goal of the game, bringing the Owls within two at 16–14. Martin and Mazzei each scored again as Temple continued to pressure late, but the Owls ultimately fell just short as Rutgers held on for the 17–16 victory.
