Magro Named Preseason All-BIG EAST; Owls Tabbed Fourth in Preseason Poll

NEW YORK – Following a debut season in which she was named BIG EAST Freshman of the Year, Temple University sophomore midfielder Lucia Magro was selected to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team on Wednesday morning.
Magro started all 18 games for the Owls last season, recording nine goals and two assists for 20 points, the most by a Temple freshman since 1987. She ranked fifth in the BIG EAST in goals per game and ninth in points per game. Magro became the first Owl to earn BIG EAST Freshman of the Year honors and the first Temple player to receive a conference rookie of the year award since 2000. The Argentine native also earned NFHCA All-Mid-Atlantic Second Team, ECAC Rookie of the Year and All-BIG EAST First Team honors following her impressive debut season.
Temple was predicted to finish fourth in the BIG EAST Preseason Field Hockey Coaches' Poll for the second consecutive season, receiving 20 points. Defending champion Liberty received all six possible first-place votes and was selected to win the conference, while UConn received the remaining first-place vote and was picked second. Old Dominion placed third with 23 points. Villanova, Providence and Georgetown rounded out the poll.
Temple opens its 2026 campaign at The Conference Cup in College Park, Md. The Owls face James Madison in the season opener on Friday, Aug. 28, at 3 p.m. before closing the tournament against host Maryland on Sunday, Aug. 30, at 2 p.m.
