PHILADELPHIA - The Temple University field hockey team scored three unanswered goals over the final 23:49 to rally past Hofstra, 4-2, on Sunday afternoon at Howarth Field.

With the win, Temple improves to 5-3 on the season, while Hofstra falls to 2-5.

Four different Owls found the back of the cage, with Winslow DiPeso, Kathryn Gauvin, Lonneke Kerkhof and Amanda Martin each scoring. After Hofstra took a 2-1 lead midway through the third quarter, Gauvin answered just 36 seconds later before Kerkhof and Martin scored in the fourth to complete the comeback. Temple outshot Hofstra, 15-7.

Temple returns to BIG EAST play Friday, Sept. 25, traveling to Collegeville, Pa., to face Villanova at noon.

Temple has rallied from halftime deficits in each of its last two games. The Owls trailed Georgetown, 1-0, before scoring twice in the third quarter for a 2-1 win Friday, then overcame deficits of 1-0 and 2-1 against Hofstra before scoring the final three goals in Sunday's 4-2 victory.

Offensive Balance

Ten different Owls have accounted for Temple's 21 goals through eight games this season. Seven different players have scored during the current three-game winning streak, with five goal scorers against Rider, Maciejewski accounting for both goals against Georgetown and four different Owls finding the cage against Hofstra.

Second-Half Surge

Temple has scored 10 of its 11 goals during its current three-game winning streak after halftime. Seven of those goals have come in the third quarter.

How It Happened

Hofstra struck first just 2:19 into the contest. The Pride converted their first penalty corner of the afternoon, with Gwenn van Dijk finishing the sequence to give Hofstra a 1-0 lead.

Despite the early deficit, Temple controlled much of the opening quarter offensively. The Owls generated eight shots and three penalty corners, with Mina Uezbe hitting the post in the seventh minute and Riley Gallagher forcing a save from Hofstra goalkeeper Luci Hollister.

Temple continued to create chances in the second quarter but could not find the equalizer. Kathryn Gauvin put a shot on goal in the 24th minute as Hofstra carried its 1-0 advantage into halftime. The Owls outshot the Pride, 10-4, over the opening 30 minutes.

The Owls finally broke through less than two minutes into the second half. Off a Temple penalty corner, Lotje Aalderink played the ball toward the cage, where DiPeso redirected it home for her first goal of the season to tie the contest at 1-1.

Hofstra regained the lead at the 35:35 mark when Sarah Smalley converted off a penalty corner, but Temple's response came just 36 seconds later. Gallagher sent the ball into the circle, where Gauvin finished in traffic for her third goal of the season to even the game at 2-2.

Gauvin's goal started a run of three unanswered for the Owls.
Temple took its first lead with 10:11 remaining in the fourth quarter. Uezbe set up Kerkhof off a penalty corner, and the defender fired the ensuing shot into the cage for her first goal of the season and a 3-2 advantage.

The Owls added insurance less than four minutes later. Maciejewski pushed the attack into the Hofstra circle and found Martin, who finished from in front of the cage for her second goal of the season to extend the lead to 4-2 with 6:16 remaining.
