Dan Goettner
Dan "Gus" Goettner was named an assistant coach on the men's crew team in 2011.

Goettner has helped bring the Owls back to a nationally-recognized program. In his most recent season, his freshman eight boat earned gold in their final race of the season -- the Dad Vail Regatta.

A 2001 graduate of Saint Joseph's, Goettner rowed in the Varsity 8 all four years. He was a member of the 1999 crew that earned a silver medal in the Dad Vail Regatta, won the Dad Vail’s Thomas Kerr Trophy (Men's Team Champion) and participated in the Henley Royal Regatta in England. As a senior, he served as co-captain and was named to the team's Scholar-Athlete list.

Goettner started his coaching career at St Josephs University in the 2003-04 season as an assistant and helped the Freshman Lightweight 8 earn a gold medal in the 2004 Dad Vail Regatta. As Freshman team coach the following season, Goettner led the Freshman heavyweight 8 to a gold medal in 2006 and 2010 and a bronze in 2007. He saw the team successfully defend their Dad Vail title in the Freshman Lightweight 8 for two more years in 2005 and 2006 and took a silver in 2010. In 2011 he was named Interim Head Coach for SJU for a season.

Goettner was a four-year member of the La Salle College High School crew team and rowed for the Varsity 8 as a junior and senior.

Goettner has coached summer programs at both Vesper and Penn AC boat clubs and will be assisting the Owls with the Freshman team, small boats, and ran the Novice program in Fall of 2012.  This pilot program developed top athletes for the team.

He resides in East Falls, Philadelphia with wife Jill and their three children.
