Fred Chmiel, who was previously an assistant coach with the WNBA's Charlotte Sting, enters his second season as an assistant coach for Temple.

Chmiel served as an assistant coach with the Sting during the 2005 season and coached Staley until she was traded to the Houston Comets on August 1, 2005. Upon the conclusion of the WNBA season, Chmiel signed on as the head coach of the National Women's Basketball League's San Jose Spiders.

A native of Palmer, Alaska, Chmiel spent 10 years coaching in Northern California, six of which were spent at Lassen College. As the Cougars head coach, he led Lassen to three Golden Valley Conference titles in six years (1999-2005). Chmiel began his coaching career at Feather River College, where he worked as an assistant for one season before holding the head coaching position from 1995-99.

Chmiel began his playing career at Feather River, where he averaged 12.5 points and six assists en route to being named First-Team All-Golden Valley Conference and a two-time defensive team MVP. Following his junior college career, Chmiel transferred to the University of Alaska Fairbanks, where he played for the Nanooks during his junior and senior years.
