Way Veney enters her 14th season on North Broad Street, and her fourth as the team's associate head coach for the 2021-22 season. She works primarily with the guards and also serves as Temple’s recruiting coordinator.

Freshman guard Jasha Clinton had a successful first season on Broad Street under Veney's guidance. Clinton was named the Philadelphia Big 5 Rookie of the Year after averaging 14.4 points, 4.0 assists, 3.4 rebounds and 2.1 steals per game. Clinton also earned a spot on the American Athletic Conference All-Freshman Team.

Veney’s 2019-20 freshman guard Asonah Alexander had an impressive first season in the Cherry and White. Alexander consistently ranked in the nation’s top-20 in assist/turnover ratio as the rookie finished the season averaging 3.8 assists per game.

Temple’s 2018-19 season ended with guard Alliya Butts graduating as the Owls’ all-time leader in threes (291) and steals (279), while ranking second all-time in points (1,936) and fourth in assists (414). Butts was the first player in Temple history to earn All-Conference honors in each of her four years, and just the second player in history to earn four All-Big 5 honors.

Veney's 2017-18 freshmen recruits shined last season, as three regularly made the starting line-up. Rookies Mia Davis and Emani Mayo both earned All-Freshman honors from the American Athletic Conference, while their classmates Breanna Perry and Desiree Oliver all saw significant playing time.

Temple’s 2016-17 season was one of its best, as the Owls went 24-8 overall, earned an NCAA bid, and finished second in the tough American Athletic Conference. Reaching the 20-win plateau for the third-straight year, Temple notched the program's best-ever RPI of 18 (at the end of regular season play), and finished with a final RPI of 25. The Owls were ranked nationally for five weeks of the season, and beat two nationally-ranked teams (#16/17 DePaul, #20/21 USF). Locally, Temple swept through the Philadelphia Big 5, taking the title with a 4-0 record.

Individually, the Owls’ outstanding guards, developed by Veney, continued to shine. Senior Feyonda Fitzgerald received a WBCA All-America nod, just the fourth player in Temple history to earn such accolades. Fitzgerald was also a WBCA All-Region selection, a first team American Athletic Conference selection, and the Philadelphia Big 5 Player of the Year. Following the season, Fitzgerald was the 20th overall pick in the 2017 WNBA Draft. Elsewhere, guards Alliya Butts and Tanaya Atkinson also garnered recognition from the American Athletic Conference and the Philadelphia Big 5.

Temple's 2015-16 season marked the second-straight 20-win campaign, as Veney helped the Owls to an overall mark of 23-12. In the tough American Athletic Conference, Temple finished third, compiling an impressive 13-5 record, the best finish for the team in American history. During the regular season, Temple made waves with a six-game win streak, including a thrilling 68-66 win over #20 USF. The culmination of the 2015-16 season again saw the Owls earn a post-season bid. The team advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2016 WNIT, before a narrow 77-76 loss at Michigan. Individually, Veney's guards again shined, as Butts earned the program's first American Athletic Conference first team nod, while also being named a first-team All-Big five selection.

Veney was instrumental in the success of the 2014-15 squad that earned the first postseason final four spot in program history. The Owls advanced to the WNIT Semifinals, relying heavily on its guards. Butts flourished under Veney, being named Big 5 Freshman of the Year, while also earning spots on the American All-Conference team, the American All-Rookie team, and the All-Big 5 team. Junior combo guard Erica Covile also received All-Big 5 and All-American Athletic Conference honors, while senior guard Tyonna Williams earned the American Sportsmanship Award, as well as one of six spots on the All-WNIT team.

After Veney’s arrival, the Owls earned three consecutive NCAA Tournament berths, advancing to the Second Round in both 2010 and 2011, and took a top spot in the 2012 Women’s National Invitation Tournament (WNIT), advancing to the third round.

The guards Veney has coached have been hugely successful. Aside from the recent standout guard trio in Fitzgerald, Butts, and Atkinson, she guided All-Atlantic 10 selections LaKeisha Eaddy, Kristen McCarthy, Shey Peddy, and Qwedia Wallace. McCarthy and Peddy earned a total of three Big 5 Player of the Year honors over three seasons, with Peddy taking the award in both 2011 and 2012. Peddy became only the second player in Atlantic 10 history to earn both Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year honors in 2012.

As recruiting coordinator, Veney helped sign transfer Peddy as well as forward Natasha Thames and center Victoria Macaulay. Most recently, she signed a top-25 recruiting class for the 2017-18 season.

Veney spent two years as an assistant at Providence College prior to joining the Temple staff. She instructed the guards and was responsible for the defense.  She also was in charge of all recruiting.

Prior to her arrival at Providence, Veney spent three seasons (2002-05) at the College of William & Mary. She was responsible for recruiting as well as tutoring the Tribe guards. In addition, Veney assisted with scouting, practice planning, and day-to-day operations of the women's basketball program.

Veney began her coaching career at American University during the 2000-01 season, the school’s final year in the Colonial Athletic Association.

Veney is a 2000 graduate of East Carolina University, where she earned a bachelor's degree in communications. She was a two-year starter for the Pirates at the guard position and earned Second-Team All-CAA honors in each of her two seasons. She also was among the league leaders in scoring, assists, and steals. Veney earned CAA All-Tournament team honors in 2000 after leading the Pirates to the championship game of the CAA Tournament.

Veney began her collegiate playing career at the College of Charleston, where she led the Cougars in scoring during her sophomore campaign.

Upon completion of her college career, Veney participated in professional tryout camps for the WNBA's Detroit Shock (2000) and the Los Angeles Sparks (2001).

A native of Hampton, Va., Veney is a 1995 graduate of Hampton High School. As a point guard for the Crabbers, Veney was named to the National High School All-America squad. She also earned First-Team All-State, All-District, and All-Region honors. Veney scored over 1,000 points in her high school career and was named the Peninsula Sports Club's Female Player of the Year.
