Dr. Danielle Ponzio
Dr. Danielle Ponzio
Daniell Ponzio MD joins the Temple women’s rowing  staff after serving as head coach of Bishop Eustace’s Girls’ Rowing team since 2008.  Dr. Ponzio’s Eustace rowers achieved enormous success under her and Temple Head Coach Jason Read’s  leadership including multiple N.J. Scholastic, Philadelphia City, Stotesbury and Scholastic National Championship gold medals.  The Ponzio family helped start the Bishop Eustace program in the spring of 2001 as both Danielle’s parents were rowers at Atlantic City High School in the 1970s under legendary high school coach, Robert Garbutt, who is the father of former Owl rowers Jeff (’95) and Matt Garbutt (’99).

Ponzio’s crews at Bishop Eustace were very successful.  Most of her rowers currently compete at Division I or Division III schools, including two current Owls, Angela Flinn (’14) and Gina Inverso (’15).

A native of Sewell, N.J., Ponzio was a standout varsity soccer and regional select ice hockey player at Bishop Eustace and continued playing club ice hockey in college while rowing on the varsity lightweight team at Princeton (’07). As a rower, Danielle won numerous Eastern Sprints and IRA medals from the seven and bow seats. When not in the lab, rowing on Lake Carnegie, or playing hockey at Baker Rink, Danielle wrote for the student-run newspaper The Princetonian and was an active member of the Cap & Gown Club.
