    Volunteer Assistant Coach
Ferdinand Bergen (SCAT  ’02) is in his third season as a volunteer assistant at his alma mater and is currently finishing up his Master of Science in Computers at Boston University.  Bergen began rowing as a youngster before attending La Salle College High School as his mother, Elizabeth, was a pioneer in women’s rowing, having made the first  women’s United States National teams eights in 1967.

Following a standout career at La Salle, Bergen attended Temple University to study Film Production.  Like Head Coach Jason Read, Bergen rowed in the engine room of boats coached by the inimitable Dr. Gavin R. White (CLA ’73) for four years, including an historic appearance in the IRA final in 2000 and four Dad Vail gold medals in the Varsity and Junior Varsity eight events.

Bergen’s father, Michael, is locally active in USRowing’s Judge Referee and Philadelphia Schuylkill Navy communities.

Bergen’s wife, Melanie (FOX ’03), was part of the first and only Atlantic 10 gold medal winning performance for the Temple Owls at the 2000 A10 Championships  in the Varsity 4+.  The couple resides in the East Falls section of Philadelphia.
