Meyer Bloom

Meyer Bloom starred for the Temple basketball team that captured the first National Invitational Tournament in 1938. He earned All-American honors as a junior and senior when he also made the Eastern Intercollegiate All Star Team. He was the NIT championship team's leading scorer and also topped the Owls as a junior. He averaged 10 points a game during the 1937-38 season as Temple rolled to a 23-2 record. He was one of the first big men to master the two hand set shot. He became an outstanding professional player, retiring from the sport in 1950. He was a standout as the Baltimore Bullets won three American League championships. He also played with the Philadelphia SPHAS, Washington Brewers, Baltimore Clippers, Trenton Tigers, Boston Celtics, Chicago Stags and Minneapolis Lakers. He coached and managed the SPHAS traveling team that played 136 games with the Harlem Globetrotters during the 1949-50 season. Before coming to Temple, he starred at Trenton, N.J., Senior High School. He made the All-State team two years and helped Trenton to a 71.2 mark.
