Owls Fight Hard Through Five Sets

9.12.26 | Women's Volleyball

VESTAL N.Y. - Temple Volleyball (5-4) fell to Cornell (2-3) Saturday morning at the Events Center. The match went a full five sets in an exciting battle that ended with Cornell pulling out the victory. Olivia Hummel was fantastic as she led the way in kills with 20. The Owls will look to bounce back next week at Princeton.

Set:1 (25-22)

Steel Sinai and Kennedy Crayton helped give the owls a quick start as they went up 2-1. Cornell continued to keep the match tight, battling back with 2 consecutive kills to regaining the momentum at 7-8

The Owls fought hard, generating offense from Olivia Hummel and Sinai, but Cornell proved to be tough offensively as they led 11-16 midway through the set.

Hummel and Khenedi Guest provided a spark for the Owls as they closed the gap to within two at 17-19.

Back to back kills from Jaya Moore and an ace form Lexi Yoza gave the Owls the lead at 23-22. And a block from Sinai helped the Owls pull out a set win at 25-22

Set:2 (14-25)

Crayton initiated the scoring for the Owls, but Cornell was able to force early mistakes and went up 1-5 to start set 2

Christiana Green was able to generate scoring for the Owls and closed the gap of the 2nd set to 5-9

Midway through the second set, Guest and Hummel recorded back to back kills, but Cornell continued to frustrate the Owls taking the lead at 10-16

Cornell would go on to win the set at 14-25

Set:3 (25-21)

Temple started the 3rd set hot, as they got scoring contributions from Hummel, Guest and Moore to take the early 5-3 lead

Cornell fought their way back into the game, and was able to force a tie, but two kills from Moore held them at bay giving Temple the slight edge at 11-10

The game was tight till midway through the set, till Temple went on a 4-0 run led by Hummel bringing the game to 20-16

Temple was consistent the rest of the way as Green closed the set out with a kill, giving the Owls a win at 25-21

Set:4 (21-25)

Moore and Hummel led the way to start set four as Temple took a 3-1 lead

Cornell kept the game tight, and tied the game at 7. But Kills from Moore and Hummel gave the Owls the slight edge at 10-8

The game was back and forth, till Cornell was scored four straight points to give them the advantage midway though the set at 11-14

Temple battled back, with scoring from Hummel and Guest, but Cornell was stingy on defense maintaining the lead at 15-19

Green and Crayton provided a small spark for the Owls, but Cornell was consistent and able to close out with a win at 21-25 to force set 5

Set:5 (11-15)

Moore and Hummel continued to lead the way in scoring getting Temple out to an early 2-1 advantage.

After an attack error by Temple, Cornell responded with scoring two straight and regaining the lead at 3-4

Cornell held the momentum midway through the set, as they scored 4 straight bringing the game to 3-9

Temple fought back, scoring four straight with contributions from Guest and Crayton, but Cornell was able to hold off the Owls run and won the match 11-15

Temple will take a short trip up to New Jersey to play Princeton University at Dillon Stadium, Friday September 18th at 5:00 P.M.
