Owls Win An Electric Five Sets In Princeton

PRINCETON, NJ - Temple Volleyball (6-4) defeated Princeton (2-5) on the road in five sets. The game was electric, at one point Temple was down 1-2 in sets, trailing in the 4th. But the Owls were determined to come out with a win and came back to win 3-2. The experienced players on the squad willed their team to victory. Lexi Yoza had another impactful game tallying 25 assists and 25 digs. Olivia Hummel continued to lead the way in the kills department recording 14. And All Conference player Christiana Greene came up with huge points when it mattered, scoring 16 on the night.
Set:1 (25-21)
- Princeton got out to an early start leading the set 1-4 but kills from Olivia Hummel and Jaya Moore got the Owls back into the match tying the game at five.
- The Owls went on a 7-2 run, a block from Steel Siani and an ace from Lexi Yoza gave the Owls a 9-7 lead. Then back to back kills from Christiana Greene extended the lead to three at 11-8.
- The set remained deadlocked within one, both teams playing well offensively and defensively. Kennedy Crayton gave Temple some breathing room with a kill, gaining the advantage at 21-19.
- A kill by Greene and a block by Khenedi Guest gave the Owls the set win at 25-21.
Set:2 (21-25)
- The Owls fell behind early after Princeton scored four straight, but a kill from Crayton got Temple on the board at 1-4.
- After a timeout, Temple was able to score 4 straight to cut the game within one at 6-7. Guest made a huge impact in the match scoring 5 points early through the second set.
- Princeton was able to shift the momentum back to their side scoring three straight, but Hummel and Greene kept the Owls in the match at 13-15 going into the break.
- Temple fought hard in the set, but tough defense by Princeton forced several errors giving them the advantage at 18-21. They would eventually pull out the set win at 21-25.
Set:3 (11-25)
- Crayton and Maddix Taniguchi started the scoring for the Owls, as they got out to a 2-1 lead to begin set three.
- Princeton was able to go on a 6-0 run gaining the advantage 4-10 over Temple. But after a timeout, Temple was able to close the distance at 7-10. But the tigers continued to rally and pulled out the set win at 11-25.
- Guest maintained a fantastic hitting percentage through three sets at .385 with 6 kills.
Set:4 (25-20)
- Greene was relentless to begin set four as she scored two straight to give Temple the lead at 3-1. The set continued to be tight, and was tied at 7 till Moore delivered a powerful spike to giving the Owls the lead at 8-7.
- The Owls showed a lot of grit with efforts from Greene and Hummel, despite Princeton shifting momentum gaining a three point advantage at the break.(12-15)
- Temple continued to fight their way back, with blocks from Moore and Freshmen Sarah Quarrels to close the gap to one at 17-18. Then a kill from Crayton and an ace by Yoza gave Temple the 21-19 lead.
- Greene came up huge for the Owls and helped close out the set with a win at 25-20.
Set:5 (15-10)
- Temple jumped out to an early 3-0 lead thanks to contributions from Greene, Hummel, and Guest.
- Greene continued her stellar night, as the Owls poured it on leading the set 7-1.
- Princeton started to close in on the Owls, until Crayton landed a decisive blow giving them a 12-6 lead. The Owls would go on to win the 15-10.
