Temple and Rhode Island to Face Off in Atlantic 10 Volleyball Championship Final

Philadelphia, Pa. - Top-seeded Temple University and the No. 2 seed
University of Rhode Island won their respective semifinal matches at the
Bell Atlantic Atlantic 10 Volleyball Championship, held Friday afternoon
at Temple University's McGonigle Hall.
Temple defeated No. 4 seed George Washington, 15-3, 15-8, 9-15 and
15-12, in the first semifinal match of the day. Enkeleida Shkoza and
Atlantic 10 Player of the Year, Alma Kovaci led the Owl offensive
attack. Shkoza landed 23 kills with a .606 hitting percentage, while
Kovaci tallied 15 kills and 14 digs.
In the second match, Rhode Island defeated third-seeded Xavier in a
three game shut-out, 15-12, 15-11, 15-7. All-Conference selection
Christie Wilson led the Rams with 16 kills while Amy Knebel registered
13 kills and 15 digs. Julia Schlecht, an All-Conference Selection and
Co-Rookie of the Year also contributed with six kills and 14 digs.
The Championship game begins at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at McGonigle Hall.
The winner will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Championship.
