Temple Volleyball Falls to Xavier 3-1

CINCINNATI - Xavier's volleyball team (20-6, 10-4 A-10) won a crucial conference match over Temple on Friday (15-7, 15-8, 4-15, 15-8). It was only Temple's second conference loss in 12 matches.

Xavier came out on fire rattling off convincing wins in games one and two. The Owls regrouped during the intermission and returned to win game three. But XU would not fold on their home court, with senior Jenny Janszen (Harrison, OH/Harrison) leading the way, the Musketeers won game four. Janszen finished with 13 kills in 28 attempts, and only two errors for a .393 hitting percentage, including five blocks.

Senior Beth Osterday (Cincinnati, OH/St. Ursula) had a team-high 15 digs and 10 kills, while sophomore Sara Bachus (Cincinnati, OH/Seton) had 12 kills and 14 digs. Sophomore Jill Hampton (Ft. Mitchell, KY/Notre Dame Academy) lead all Musketeers with 16 kills in 26 attempts, and only three errors for a .500 hitting percentage.

The Musketeers out hit Temple .292 to .162 and out blocked the Owls 14-8. XU is back in action on Saturday night as they host the La Salle Explorers at 7:30 pm.
