Owls' Kerrigan Selected by Red Sox in MLB Draft

PHILADELPHIA (June 4, 1999) -- Temple shortstop Joe Kerrigan was selected by the Boston Red Sox in the 46th round of the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft.

Kerrigan, a native of Garrett Hill, Pa., finished the 1999 season as Temple's top hitter with a .387 batting average. He also led the Owls in hits (79), doubles (14), RBIs (44) and slugging percentage (.495). His 62 singles this season broke the Temple record of 56 set by George Clark in 1985.

Kerrigan was named to the Atlantic 10 All-Conference first team following the 1999 season.
