PHILADELPHIA – Five Temple Owls earned honors from the Philadelphia Big 5 in baseball on Tuesday.

Freshman LHP Patrick Krall (Downingtown, Pa.) was named the co-Rookie of the Year, sharing the honor with Villanova's Todd Czinege, while head coach Ryan Wheeler was named the co-Coach of the Year. He shared the honor with Saint Joseph's Fritz Hamburg.

Named to the All-Big 5 team were senior first baseman Robert Amaro (Bensalem, Pa.) and senior RHP Matt Hockenberry (Hanover, Pa.).  Senior RHP Ryan Kuehn (Lehighton, Pa.) was the Owls' Academic Team honoree.

Krall, who served as Temple's top relief pitcher, recorded the team's best ERA (0.66). He saw action in 15 games with two saves while pitching 27.1 innings. Krall was named to Temple's 2014 Athletic Director's Honor Roll for sporting a grade-point average (GPA) better than 3.0.

Wheeler, who has 18 years of Division I coaching experience, completed his third season as the head baseball coach at Temple University in 2014. He guided the Owls to 52 total wins and to at least seven conference wins each season. This season Wheeler notched his 50th career win when the Owls upset No. 5 Louisville, 4-2, on May 10.  Just five days later, Wheeler guided TU to another upset of a ranked team, No. 16 Houston, 4-1.

Amaro, who earned Philadelphia Big 5 Player of the Week honors on May 12, was one of three Owls to start every game (47). The top batter (.324), Amaro had team-bests of 58 hits and 39 RBI.  He ranked among the American's top hitters in several statistical categories.

Hockenberry, who earned Philadelphia Big 5 Pitcher of the Week honors on May 12, was named to the American Athletic Conference Honor Roll twice and named the OwlSports.com Athlete of the Week twice during the season. Temple's top pitcher, he appeared in 15 games with 14 starts. Hockenberry pitched a team-high 93.1 innings, striking out 71 and walking 23. He ranked among the American's top pitchers in four statistical categories. Hockenberry was named to Temple's 2014 Athletic Director's Honor Roll.

Kuehn, who was named to the American Athletic Conference Honor Roll on April 21, appeared in 15 games with 10 starts. He finished the 2014 season with a 4-2 mark, including the 9-4 win over Connecticut in the program's final game. His five career saves rank No. 10 on Temple's career chart. Kuehn was named to Temple's President's List in 2014 and 2013 for sporting a GPA greater than 3.5.
