Women's Volleyball: Temple Falls After Tech Rallies in Five Sets

BLACKSBURG, Va. (Sept. 25) - For the fourth time in four matches, the Virginia Tech
volleyball squad had to rally to force a decisive fifth set, this time
coming back from a 2-1 deficit to knock off Temple, 3-2 Saturday night at
Cassell Coliseum. Game scores were 16-14, 7-15, 10-15, 15-12, 15-13. The
Hokies improve to 4-8 overall, 3-1 in the Atlantic 10. Temple falls to 6-4,
1-1 in the A-10.
Tech had to battle back in each game as they fell behind big each time. In
the first game, the Hokies trailed 11-4 and 14-11 before pulling out the
16-14 victory. In the fourth game, they fell behind 6-0 and 9-1 before
going on a 13-0 run to take a 14-9 lead en route to the 15-12 victory. In
the final game, the Hokies had several match points before a kill from
Wright gave the Hokies the match.
Temple was led by Karla Jones, who had 19 kills. Alma Kovaci had 17 kills
and TeresaSchumacher had 65 assists for the Owls.
The fourth consecutive five-set math ties a school record. The 1992 squad
also played four five-setters in a row.
