Volleyball Survives Scare From Rhode Island To Remain Undefeated In Atlantic 10

Kingston, R. I. - Temple elevated its match record to 11-6, 8-0 in the Atlantic 10 Conference with a win over Rhode Island October 14, three games to two. The game scores were 12-15, 18-16, 16-18, 15-12 and 15-7 for the Owls who were extended to five games for the first time this season in conference play.

Temple was led by All-America candidate, Alma Kovaci, with a match-high 33 kills and 17 digs. Brandy Best added 24 kills, four service aces and six blocks while Christine Happel tallied 11 kills and 11 blocks for the Owls. Teresa Schumacher recorded 67 assists in the grueling five game match.

The Rams were led by Cheri Melson, (32 kills, 15 digs four blocks) Amy Kauppila (25 kills, 17 digs) and Yolanda Bogacz (12 kills, 14 digs and eight blocks). Also outstanding for Rhode Island was Britta Feldmann, who broke a school record with 89 assists in helping to push the Owls to their limit.

Temple returns home and will face Rutgers (Tuesday, October 17) and Duquesne (Friday, October 20) both matches begin at 7:00 p.m. in McGonigle Hall.
