Cincinnati, Ohio (October 27) - A funny thing happened on the way to perfect season in the Atlantic 10 Conference for the Temple volleyball team but in the end, none of the Owls were laughing. Xavier literally turned the lights out on Temple last night and won the match three games to one, giving the Owls their first loss in the conference and putting a halt to a ten-game winning streak. The game scores were 15-12, 9-15, 13-15 and 11-15. Temple's match record falls to 13-7, 9-1 in the Atlantic 10.
Temple won the first game of the match, before dropping the next three. During the final game of the match, the lights went out in Xavier's new arena, the Cintas Center, suspending play for 16 minutes. Temple trailed at the time 13-7.
Temple had three players post double-doubles in the match, led by senior All-America candidate, Alma Kovaci who tallied 24 kills and 14 digs. Senior Brandy Best (13 kills, 19 digs) and freshman Yamit Haba (17 kills, 22 digs) were also solid in defeat.
Xavier was led by Sara Bachus with 20 kills and 16 digs, one of four Musketeers to record double-doubles.
Next up for the Owls, a road match at Dayton (October 28 at 4:00 p.m.).
