Temple Outlasts GW 3-2 in Atlantic 10 Thriller

PHILADELPHIA - Temple volleyball halted its two game skid with a thrilling win over George Washington three games to two. The game scores were 15-11, 10-15, 11-15, 15-13 and 16-14 in two hours and forty minutes for the Owls who raised their match record to 14-8, 10-2 in the Atlantic 10. George Washington (19-5, 10-2) lost for just the second time in conference play with both losses coming at the hands of the three time defending Atlantic 10 champions.

Temple was led by senior All-America candidate and reigning Atlantic 10 Player of the Year, Alma Kovaci who boomed 32 kills and 18 digs in the five game marathon. Freshman, Margaret Majewska (14 kills, seven digs) and sophomore Sara Stone (10 kills, nine digs) came through in the clutch for the Owls. Senior Teresa Schumacher logged most of the time at setter for the home team and dished out 60 assists. Temple trailed late in the fifth and deciding game 14-12 before rallying, during rally scoring to take the last four points and the match.

George Washington was paced by Tracee Brown's 28 kills and 11 digs. Renee Arnold (24 kills, 13 digs) and Suzana Manole (15 kills, 17 digs) also posted double-doubles for the Colonials. Setter Jill Levey, notched a match-high 65 assists for the visitors.

Next up for the Owls, a cross town conference match at La Salle (Thursday, November 2 at 7:00 p.m.) and a trip to New York city to take on Fordham (Saturday, November 4 at 4:00 p.m.).
