Women's Fencing Competes at the Penn State Open

The women's fencing team competed at the Penn State Open this past
Sunday, November 12. Several top ten finishes were returned.
Junior Julia Korony (Columbia, S.C./A.C. Flora) was the top finisher for
the Owls with a seventh place finish in epee. Freshmen who placed in
epee were Kristen Hachtmann (Glen Gardner, N.J./Voorhees) who finished
25th and Stephanie Sargent (Califon, N.J./Voorhees) who finished 27th.
Freshman Sara Forsythe (Hackettstown, N.J./Hackettstown) finished 35th
for the Owls.
In women's sabre, sophomore Sakinah Shaahid (Pittsburgh, Pa./Schenley)
recorded a ninth place finish for the Cherry and White. Freshman Aziza
Hassan (Brooklyn, N.Y./Fashion Industries) placed 20th. Also placing for
the Owls was sophomore Nicole Macomber (Manahawkin, N.J./Southern
Regional) who finished 34th and junior Sara Ironman (Huntington,
N.Y./Huntington) who finished 35th.
The top finishes for Temple in women's foil came with a ninth place
finish by senior Jaime Beecher (Brentwood, N.Y./Brentwood) and a tenth
place finish by senior Gina DeIeso (Franklin Lakes, N.J./Indian Hills).
Junior Stefanie Izzolino (Maplewood, N.J./Columbia) recorded a 12th
place finish. The remaining Owl results came from freshman Nerita
Brumell (Brentwood, N.Y./Brentwood) who placed 27th and freshman Maggie
Castellano (Tunkhannock, Pa./Tunkhannock) who finished 39th.
The Owls are next in action on Sunday, December 3, at Fairleigh
Dickinson at 8:00 a.m. for the Christmas Invitational.
