Volleyball Finishes Regular Season With 3-1 Win Over Fairfield

Orlando - The Temple volleyball team finished the regular season with a match record of 20-11, 13-3 in the Atlantic 10 Conference. Their 20th victory came over Fairfield three games to one. The game scores were 15-13, 13-15, 15-7 and 15-13 for the Owls who must now wait a decision from the NCAA tournament selection committee to see if they receive an at-large bid to the 64 team volleyball tournament.
Leading the way for Temple was senior All-America candidate Alma Kovaci who boomed 31 kills and 13 digs. Freshman Yamit Haba, the 2000 Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year, notched 18 kills and 18 digs. Setting things up for Temple was senior setter Teresa Schumacher who passed out 78 assists and recorded 10 digs.
Fairfield was paced by Joanne Saunders with 23 kills and 22 digs. Corrine Carlson (17 kills, 15 digs) also posted a double-double for the Stags.
Kovaci now has 2,046 career kills; good enough for second all-time at Temple. Mary Beth Wilson (1980-83) holds the record of 2,068 career kills. Next up for the Owls, crossed fingers, rabbit's feet and NCAA Tournament selection.
