Men's and Women's Track Finished Strong at Princeton Invitational

Princeton, N.J. (December 10, 2000) - Temple's men's and women's indoor
track teams finished strong at Princeton University's New Year's
Invitational this past weekend.
Law student Robert Lythgoe (Lester, Pa./Monsignor Bonner) finished first
in the mile with a time of 4:16.76, 2.31 better than his finish last
week at the Bucknell Invitational, where he finished second. Sophomore
Tracey Champion (Philadelphia, Pa./West Catholic) recorded a sixth place
finish in the 55m hurdles (7.86). Freshman Craig Henry (Uniondale,
N.Y./Uniondale) finished third in the high jump (1.87 6'1.5") while
sophomore William Springfield (Roxbury, Mass./Boston Latin School)
placed fourth (1.87 6'1.5"). Henry also placed fourth in the triple jump
(13.32 43'8.5"). In the long jump, sophomore transfer Robert Leite-Young
(York, Pa./Central York) finished third (6.85 22'5.75").
The women turned in several impressive finishes. Sophomore Edith Lewis
(New Castle, Del./William Penn) placed second in the long jump (5.58
18'3.75"). In the 400m, senior Afia Brown (Yeadon, Pa./Penn Wood)
finished first with a time of 58.72. Freshman Ruby Amanze (Roslyn,
Pa./Abington) came in third with a time of 60.02. Sophomore Naomi
Beverly (Marietta, Ga./Marietta) finished first in the 55m (7.33).
Sophomore Carla Miles (Landover Hills, Md./Parkdale) placed sixth
(7.72). Beverly had a sixth place finish in the triple jump (11.08
36'4.25"). Freshman Samantha Porter (Charlotte, N.C./Independence) came
in fifth in the 300m (42.7). Temple "A" ran to a first place finish in
the 4x400m with a time of 3:56.61. Temple "B" finished fourth with a
time of 4:02.64.
