Fencing Dominates all Three Weapons at the Fairleigh Dickinson Christmas Invitational

Teaneck, N.J. (December 4) - The Temple Women's Fencing team dominated
all three weapon categories yesterday to claim three individual victories at the Fairleigh Dickinson Christmas Invitational.
Freshman Sara Forsythe (Hackettstown, N.J./Hackettstown) finished first
in epee. Freshman Stephanie Sargent (Califon, N.J./Voorhees) placed
third. Freshman Krissy Hachtman (Glen Gardner, N.J./Voorhees) finished
seventh.
Junior Stefanie Izzolino (Maplewood, N.J./Columbia) finished first in
foil. A freshman from Brentwood, N.Y. (Brentwood), Nerita Brumell placed
eighth. Freshman Maggie Castellano (Tunkhannock, Pa./Tunkhannock)
finished 12th.
In sabre, freshman Aziza Hassan (Brooklyn, N.Y./Fashion Industries) won
the championship bout. Sophomore Sakinah Shaahid (Pittsburgh,
Pa./Schenley) finished fourth. Junior Sara Ironman (Huntington,
N.Y./Huntington) placed sixth. A sophomore from Manahawkin, N.J.
(Southern Regional), Nicole Macomber finished 12th.
This was the first time in Temple Women's Fencing history that all 10
fencers reached at least the semi-final round. It was also the first
time that seven fencers reached the final round.
Temple fencing is next in action on Sunday, January 7, 2001, at home in
McGonigle Hall at 1:00 p.m. for an Alumnae Meet.
