Baseball Splits with UMass
4.17.00 | Baseball
The Temple baseball team fought the rain this weekend to split two games
with the University of Massachusetts. The Minutemen took the first game
of a doubleheader on Saturday, 14-3. UMass pounded out 16 hits and held
the Owls to only three runs. However, Owls' first baseman Rob Cucinotta
managed to crack his seventh home run of the season and his fourth of
the week in the fourth inning.
The second game was rained out and was made up on Sunday. In Sunday's
contest, the Owls got a masterful pitching performance from junior Jeff
Rugg who tossed a complete game, yielding only one run on three hits.
With the game tied, 1-1, in the bottom of the seventh inning, Keith
Ramsey reached on an error by the Massachusetts' pitcher Nick Skirkanich
to drive in Joe Lyall and give the Owls the 2-1 victory.
In Sunday's second game, the Owls and Minutemen were tied, 9-9, in the
fifth inning before rain forced the game to be suspended. The game will
resume on Monday at 11:30 a.m. at Erny Field.
