Men's Crew Wins Coveted Murphy Cup

Philadelphia, Pa. (April 22, 2000)- Temple men's varsity eight crew won the
coveted Murphy Cup this past weekend during the Murphy Cup Regatta on the
Schuylkill River. The men rowed to a first place victory with a time of
5:32.4.
The Owls defeated Dowling (5:42.6), Rochester Institute of Technology
(5:47.8), George Mason (5:52.0), Rochester (5:53.6) and Drexel (6:00.8).
Temple defended their title after capturing first place with a time of 5:58.76
in 1999.
Men's and women's crews from 16 institutions competed for the coveted Murphy
Cup, named in honor of John Murphy, a former Temple oarsman who was tragically
killed by a hit and run driver in 1981.
