Baseball Downs Delaware to Win Liberty Bell Classic

Temple batted around and scored five runs in the second inning to take the lead for good and moved on to an 11-4 victory
over the University of Delaware Thursday night, April 6 in the finals of the Liberty Bell Classic Baseball Tournament at
Veterans Stadium.
The Owls (9-16-1), who also beat the Blue Hens 8-7 back in March, won their second Liberty Bell Classic title in the
ournament's nine-year existence. The Blue Hens (15-10), winners of four LBC titles, were making their eighth tournament final appearance.
Temple banged out 14 hits on the night as catcher Jeff Roma went 3 for 5 and knocked in two runs.
Third baseman Sam Sabolchick keyed the five-run second with a two-run single and shortstop Mike
Jenkins also knocked in two runs to make a winner of Matt Powell (2-0), who pitched six strong innings, allowing
just five Blue Hen hits. Chris Joyce pitched three scoreless innings to earn his first save of the season.
Up next for the Owls is a weekend series against Duquesne at Erny Field.
