Temple Crew Coach Gavin White Named Assistant For 2000 Olympic Games

PHILADELPHIA - Temple University Head Mens Crew Coach Gavin White has
been named the coach of the mens four at the 2000 Olympic Games, it was
announced by US Rowing.
White, who will enter his 22nd year as coach at Temple, is a five- time
assistant coach for the U.S. National Team (1986, 1997- 2000). In 1999
he led the mens coxed four to a gold medal and in 2000 to a silver
medal in the Nationals.
"Coaching in the Olympics is the pinnacle of coaching," White said.
"It is what every coach dreams of."
White will be working under Head Olympic Rowing Coach Mike Teti. The
two men are no strangers since Teti served as White's assistant from
1982-1989.
White who was inducted into the Temple Athletic Hall of Fame in 1985,
has guided Temple to 12 consecutive Dad Vail titles (1989-2000). The
Owls also held the varsity eight title from 1983-1987.
In other rowing news, former Temple rower Igor Francetic (1996-1999)
will participate in the 2000 Olympics on the Croatian varsity eight
crew.
