9.16.00 | Women's Volleyball

Salt Lake City, Utah (September 15) - In a grueling four-game match, where the teams battled for most every point, No. 18 Utah defeated Temple three games to one to remain undefeated (8-0) on the season while the Owls match record fell to 3-5. The game scores were 18-16, 16-14, 16-18 and 15-1 in favor of the Utes who were pushed to their limit by the feisty Owls. Senior sensation Alma Kovaci continued her impressive start as she led the Temple attack with 32 kills and 18 digs, joining the 30 kill club for the second straight week. Brandy Best just missed a double-double as well with nine kills and 12 digs. Sophomore Sara Stone added 15 digs for the Owls and junior Risa Sasaki posted nine kills. The setting duo of Teresa Schumacher and Solana Lee recorded assist numbers of 40 and 24 respectively.

Utah was led by freshman Kim Turner (16 kills) and junior Lenka Urbanova (15 kills). Lucie Turnova added 54 assists for the Utes. "They are a very good team," said Head Coach Beth Launiere. "Alma Kovaci is a legitimate outside hitter and we couldn't contain her. Our defense needed to step it up tonight and the exciting thing about this team is that there are so many areas that we can get better at and we're still winning matches. Our blocking made a big difference tonight and helped us shut them down. This is a good win for us and a tough one, Temple is a very good team."
