9.17.00 | Women's Volleyball

Provo, Utah - Playing their second match against a ranked opponent in as many days, the Temple volleyball team fell to 10th ranked BYU three games to none last night. The Cougars took the match with game scores of 15-2, 15-5, and 15-2 against the Owls who saw their match record dip to 3-6.

Senior sensation Alma Kovaci notched a season low six kills in the match and also recorded eight digs. Brandy Best also recorded six kills for a Temple team that clearly struggled with its hitting. Temple's hitting percentage was a mere .013 against BYU.

The Cougars were led by a pair of sisters, setter Karina Puikkonen and middle blocker Nina Puikkonen. The freshman setter recorded 28 assists for BYU while her older sister had 10 kills and 12 blocks to lead the home team. BYU improves its match record to 7-3 on the season.

The Owls have two more away matches (Wednesday, September 20 at George Washington and Saturday, September 23 at Duquesne) before returning to their McGonigle Hall nest to face Dayton (Friday, September 29) and Xavier (Saturday, September 30).
