9.30.00 | Women's Volleyball
PHILADELPHIA - Temple shrugged off the loss of its star player, Alma Kovaci, to post a victory over Xavier three games to none to raise their match record to 7-6 and 4-0 in the Atlantic 10. The game scores were 15-7, 15-10 and 15-12 for the Owls, who hit .416 as a team against a Xavier team that was previously unbeaten in the conference.
Temple was led by senior Maria Vutskova (17 kills) and sophomore Sara Stone (13 kills). Senior setter Teresa Schumacher passed out 41 assists for the Owls. Kovaci was unable to play due to an ankle injury she suffered last night in a victory over Dayton. It is unclear how long she will be out of the lineup.
Xavier was led by Sara Bachus (nine kills) and Jill Hampton (nine kills), while hitting .216 as a team.
Next up for the Owls, two more home matches versus La Salle (Tuesday, October 3) and Fordham (Friday, October 6).
