Men's and Women's Track Compete in Hershey Relays

Lewisburg, Pa. (Jan. 13) - Temple men's and women's track teams competed
in the 6th Annual Bucknell - Hershey Relays over the weekend. The men's team
had three athletes finish in the top three in various events, while three
women placed in the top three in four events.
Sophomore Tracey Champion (Philadelphia, Pa./West Catholic) placed second in
the 55m hurdles beating his own personal best with a time of 7.72. This
finish puts him third in the Atlantic 10 Conference. Law student Robert
Lythgoe (Lester, Pa./Monsignor Bonner) turned in another strong performance
for the Owls placing second in the mile (4:20.83). Sophomore Robert
Leite-Young (York, Pa./Central York) finished second in the triple jump with a
leap of 45'5 1/2" moving him into second place in the Atlantic 10. Robert
also came in eighth in the long jump (20'10 3/4").
The Owls' freshman Kevin Kelly (Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven) finished third
in the pole vault with a jump of 14'3." In the 55m dash heat 1, freshman
Gregory Vaughan (Largo, Md./Suitland) finished sixth (6.88). Freshman Bryant
Adams (Glenn Dale, Pa./Central) placed third with a time of 1:08.17 in the
500m section 1. Temple's 4x400 Relay team placed third in section 2 with a
time of 3:28.42.
For the women, sophomore Edith Lewis (New Castle, Del./William Penn) led the
way placing in two events. She placed second in the triple jump surpassing
her personal best and making her second in the Atlantic 10 with a leap of 37'9
1/2." Edith also finished third in the long jump (17'5 3/4"). In the 55m
dash, senior Afia Brown (Yeadon, Pa./Penn Wood) and sophomore Naomi Beverly
tied for third place with a time of 7.29. Sophomore Angela Gblah
(Philadelphia, Pa./West Philadelphia) placed seventh in the triple jump and
ninth in the high jump (33'11", 4'10 1/2"). The Owls finished fifth in the
4x800m with a time of 9:56.57. The relay team also placed fifth in the sprint
medley relay section 2 (4:58.23) and fourth in the 4x400m (3:58.46).
In the 55m hurdles heat 1, freshman Jaweia Campbell (Trenton, N.J./Ewing)
placed eighth (9.72) and in heat 2, sophomore Raina Marshall came in fifth
(9.21). The Owls' junior Channel Dale (Chester, Pa./Chester) finished fifth
in 500m section 1, with a time of 1:22.20. In section 2, freshmen Ruby Amanze
(Roslyn, Pa./Abington) and junior Patricia Swiggett placed second and fifth
(1:17.96, 1:23.19).
The Owls' next meet is January 19 -20 at the Princeton Relays.
