Track Results from the Terrier Classic, Penn State Open, and Bison Open

Philadelphia, Pa. (Jan. 29, 2001) - Athletes from both the men's and

women's track teams competed in three different meets this past

weekend. They include the 20th Annual Terrier Classic at Boston

University, the Penn State National Open, and the 4th Annual Bison Open

at Bucknell University.

At the Penn State National Open, Senior Afia Brown (Yeadon, Pa./Penn

Wood) placed sixth in the 200m and fourteenth in the 60m dash

preliminary (7.77, 24.93). In the 400m dash, freshmen Samantha Porter

(Charlotte, N.C./Independence) and Jessica Jenning (Washington

D.C./Howard D. Woodson) finished thirty-first and thirty second with times

of 59.50 and 59.56. Junior Chanel Dale (Chester, Pa./Chester) placed

twenty-fourth in the 500m dash with a time of 1:18.18. Freshman Ruby

Amanze (Roslyn, Pa./Abington) also placed in this event coming in

twenty-fifth (1:18.21). In the 4x400, TempleOs relay team finished eleventh

with a time of 3:51.43.

At the Bison Open, Freshman Jaweia Campbell (Trenton, N.J./Ewing)

placed seventh in the 55m high hurdles (9.51) and first in the 55m dash

consolation (7.57). Sophomore sprinter, Carla Miles (Landover Hills,

Md./Parkdale) finished seventh in the 55m dash finals (7.63) and third in

the 400m section 3 (1:04.35). The OwlsO senior, Kasha Benson Craig

(Sechenville, N.J./Highland Regional) and freshman Chanelle Sirmons

(Forestville, Md./Central) also placed in the 400m section 1and 3 finishing

fourth and second (1:04.35, 1:00.90). Sirmons also placed third in the

55m dash consolation with a time of 7.71.

In the Terrier Classic, Erica Smith finished sixth in the 200m (26.94) and

fourteenth in the 55m hurdles (8.50). Sprinters Rhonda Underwood and

Teresa Covert placed eleventh and twentieth in the 55m hurdles (8.43,

8.72). The OwlsO junior, Patricia Swiggett (Chester, Pa./Chester) finished

ninth in the 400m-unseeded with a time of 1:00.30. TempleOs relay team

came in seventh in the 4x400m-unseeded with a time of 4:01.93.

At the Penn State National Open for the men, law student Robert Lythgoe

(Lester, Pa./Monsignor Bonner) finished the mile with a time of 4:18.70

placing him twenty-sixth. In the 500m dash, freshman Bryant Adams

(Glenn Dale, Md./Central) placed thirtieth overall (1:07.23). Sophomore

Daniel Stevens (Philadelphia, Pa./Dobbins/Randolph A.V.T.S.) finished

forty-fifth with a time of 1:58.51.

In the Boston University Terrier Classic, sprinters Bruce Sober and Andre

Turner finished fourth and fifth in the 500m run (1:04.27, 1:04.36). In the

same event, Shawn Wilson placed fourteenth (1:05.52) and Jermaine

Halsey finished thirty-sixth (1:07.74). Halsey also placed twenty-first in

the

800m-unseeded (1:58.39). Jeremy Nunn came in seventh in the same

event (1:56.37) and nineteenth in the 1000m run (2:32.91). In the

200m-unseeded, Dale Coachman finished thirtieth with a time of 23.39.

Steve Shaw finished twelfth in the weight throw (48O11.00") and fourteenth

in the shot put (44O6.00"). TempleOs 4x400 relay team placed sixth with a

time of 3:13.73.

The Owls are in action next Saturday, February 3, 2001 at the Delaware

Invitational.
