2001 Baseball Outlook
The 2001 Temple baseball team is filled with high expectations. Coach
Skip Wilson's squad returns 24 players, including all nine starters from
a team that won 10 of its last 13 games in 2000. A solid nucleus
surrounds all facters on the diamond. Six returning infielders set the
tone for a solid offensive and defensive unit, while an interchangable
outfield will look to produce runs against both right-handed and
left-handed pitching. Depth behind the plate will be a key in getting a
strong pitching staff off on the right foot in 2001.
With a veteran returning unit looking forward to visiting Orlando,
Florida in May for the 2001 Atlantic 10 Tournament, Wilson is excited
about his team's chances in 2001. "We look forward to a much more
successful season with the addition of some newcomers and a veteran
returning ball club, but we also have a much tougher schedule that will
prepare us for Atlantic 10 conference play", said the veteran coach. The
Owls open up the 2001 season on Friday, February 9th in New Orleans with
a weekend 3-game series against Conference USA opponent, Tulane. They
follow that up with a 4-game weekend set the following weekend down in
Williamsburg, Virginia against William & Mary.
