WOMEN'S FENCING TEAM COMPETES IN PENN STATE OPEN

PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple University fencing team competed in the Penn State Open this past weekend, November 10, 2001 at Penn State. Temple had a fencer in two of the three weapon final rounds.

Senior Stefanie Izzolino led the Foil squad with a ninth place finish overall followed by Jeanne Browne who finished 14th, Nnenna Okoro who finished 17th and Katrina Najm with a 26th place finish.

Senior Julia Korony advanced to the final round of the Epee competition with an 8th place finished. Sophomore Stephanie Sargent finished 15th overall while Sara Forsythe finished 17th and Kera Luckhardt finished 29th.

Sophomore Aziza Hassan had the highest finish overall for the Owls placing 6th in the Sabre competition. Freshman Amanda Gerwer and sophomore Sakinah Shaahid finished 23rd and 24th respectively. Rounding out the Sabre squad was Nicole Macomber with a 31st place finish and Sara Ironmen with a 36th place finish.

Next up for the fencing team is the NIWFA Christmas Invitational on December 2, 2001.
