WOMEN'S FENCING COMPETES IN 22ND ANNUAL COLLEGIATE OPEN

11.4.01 | Women's Fencing

PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple women's fencing team started the season on a high note when they competed in the 22nd annual Temple Open on November 3, 2001. Temple had at least one fencer in the final round of every weapon.

Senior Stefanie Izzolino led the foil squad with an overall third place tie while sophomore Nertia Brumell finished fifth. Freshman Jeanne Browne had a 12th place finish, Nenna Okoro finished 21st and Katrina Okoro finished 34th.

In Epee, team captain Julia Korony finished 2nd while sophomore Sara Forsythe finished 6th and Stephanie Sargent finished 19th. Freshman Kera Luckhardt finished 24th overall.

Junior Sakinah Shaahid led the Sabre squad with a 5th place finish overall while Nicole Macomber and Aziza Hassan finished 9th and 10th respectively. Rounding out the sabre squad was Amanda Gerwer finishing 26th and Sara Ironman finishing 28th.

The Owls go on to compete in the Penn State Open next weekend, November 11, 2001.
