TEMPLE FENCING GETS EARLY PRESENT AT NIWFA CHRISTMAS INVITATIONAL

12.5.01 | Women's Fencing

PHILADELPHIA -- The Temple University women's fencing team competed in the NIWFA Christmas Invitational on December 2, 2001 at Fairleigh Dickinson University. The Owls had a finalist in every weapon competition sweeping the top spots in foil and sabre.

The foil squad took the top four spots with Stefanie Izzolino finishing first, Nerita Brumell finishing second, Jeanne Browne third and Nnenna Okoro taking fourth. Katrina Najm rounded out the squad finishing 11th.

Sophomore Aziza Hassan had a first place finish in the sabre competition with senior Sara Ironman finishing 6th and freshman Amanda Gerwer finishing 13th. Junior Nicole Macomber rounded out the squad with a 16th place finish.

Sophomore Sara Forsythe had the top finish for the epee squad placing 2nd while fellow sophomore Stephanie Sargent finished 5th. The lone freshman competing, Kera Luckhardt, finished 17th.

Next up for the Owls is the Alumane Meet on January 6, 2001 in McGonigle Hall at 1:00 p.m.
