Indoor Track Teams Compete in University of Delaware Invitational

Newark, Del. (Feb. 4) - Temple's men's and women's track teams
competed in the University of Delaware Invitational over the weekend. The
women had three athletes place in the top five in different events, while
the men had two.
Freshman Ruby Amanze (Roslyn, Pa./Abington) led the way for the Owls
winning the 400m, their only first place finish of the day. Amanze beat her
own personal best with a time of 2:16.33. In the same race, freshman
Nicole Porter (Hartford, Conn./Farmington) placed sixth (2:22.40). In the
triple jump, sophomores Edith Lewis and Naomi Beverly finished fourth
and sixth (36O05.50, 34O11.25). Lewis also placed fourteenth in the long
jump with a distance of 15O09.50. TempleOs relay team finished third in
the 4x400m (3:59.47) and sixth in the 4x800m (10:10.33).
In the 60m dash, sophomores Marirose Roach (Danielson,
Conn./Killingly) and Naomi Beverly (Marietta, Ga./Marietta) placed
thirteenth and sixteenth (8:09, 8.11) and freshman Jaweia Campbell
finished twenty-seventh (8.29). Sophomore Carla Miles placed
twenty-fourth and freshman Annsha Richards came in thirty-first in the
200m dash (27.79, 28.31). Four of the Owls placed in the top twenty in the
400m: Junior Chanel Dale (Chester, Pa./Chester) finished fifth with a time
of 59.63, freshman Samantha Porter (Charlotte, N.C./Independence)
finished thirteenth (1:00.93), senior Kasha Benson Craig (Sechenville,
N.J./Highland Regional), and Freshman Jessica Jenning (Washington,
D.C./Howard D. Woodson) placed fifteenth and sixteenth (1:01.34,
1:01.48). In the shot put, freshman Rashida Stamps placed thirteenth
with a throw of 37O10.75.
For the men, freshman Jason Forbes (Philadelphia, Pa./Newark) finished
second in the triple jump with a distance of 46O04.75. In the same event,
teammates Robert Leite-Young (York, Pa./Central York) and Craig Henry
(Uniondale, Pa./Uniondale) placed sixth and seventh (43O09.25, 43O07.00).
Leite-Young also finished tenth in the long jump with a distance of
21O01.25. In the one mile-run, law student Robert Lythgoe (Lester,
Pa./Monsignor Bonner) came in fourth with a time of 4:20.73.
Owls' freshman, Kevin Kelly (Wallingford, Pa./Strath Haven) finished sixth
in the pole vault with a height of 13O09.25. In the 800m, sophomore
Daniel Stevens (Philadelphia, Pa./Dobbins/Randolph A.V.T.S.) placed
seventh (1:58.72). Junior Otis Hudson, Jr. came in twenty-third in the
400m (52.08). TempleOs relay teams placed fifth in the 4x800 and
nineteenth in the 4x400 (8:19.27, 3:36.92).
Both the men's and women's teams will be competing in the Valentine
Invitational at Virginia Tech on February 10, 2001.
