Skip Wilson's club (0-14) heads back east after dropping a twin-bill to
Cal State Northridge (13-6).
The Temple Owls (0-13), still looking for their first victory of the
season, let a three-run lead slip away in the last two innings, dropping a
7-6 decision to Cal State Northridge (12-6).
The Owls took a 6-3 lead into the eighth inning, only to see the Matadors
score two runs in each of the last two innings to hand Skip Wilson's squad
its 13th consecutive loss.
With the Owls up 6-5 heading into the ninth, Matador catcher Phillip
Archer ignited the two-run uprising with a leadoff home run off loser Brandon
Bruno (0-1). Cal State Northridge won it on a single by Tim Arroyo.
The Owls got their first home run of the year by freshman Spencer Witte in
the eighth and Sam Sabolchick drove in two runs for the Owls. Mike Frick
(2-0) got the win for the Matadors (12-6).
After losing a heart-breaker in the first game of a doubleheader, the
Temple Owls (0-14) could muster only three singles and were shutout for the
first time this season, dropping a 4-0 decision to Cal State Northridge
(13-6) in the second game of a doubleheader.
The Matadors held a 1-0 lead, but scored three runs on five hits in the
eighth inning to put distance between themselves and Skip Wilson's club to
register their 13th win of the season.
Bob Filler, who continues to close in on three different individual Temple
records, had two of the Owls three hits.
Temple got a strong pitching performance from loser Greg Powell (0-3),
while two Matador pitchers silenced the Owl bats.
The Owls take a week off before beginning play back on the east coast when
they travel to Bethlehem, Pa. to take on Lehigh on Sunday, March 18th.
