3.19.01 | Women's Fencing
Five Temple Fencers were selected to compete in the 2001 NCAA
Championships to be held at the
University of Wisconsin - Parkside March 22nd -25th. Seniors, Jaime
Beecher and Gina DeIeso both
qualified in Women's Foil for the fourth year in a row. In Women 's
Epee, Junior Julia Korony qualified for
the third year. Newcomers to the NCAA tournament include Freshman
Epeeist Sara Forsythe and
Sophomore Sakinah Shaahid in Women's Sabre.
Coaches Franke and Palacio are very pleased with the number of
NCAA selections Temple received.
Five qualifiers are the most fencers that Temple has ever had selected
for the Championships. The team is
definitely looking forward to improving on their 11th place finish
last year among the women's teams.
The team will be competing on March 24th and 25th against the top
fencers from across the nation.
Also an accomplishment to add the the list of the Temple Women's Fencing team
is the lastest and final USFCA 2001 Fencing Poll in which the Owls were ranked
ninth.
